Are Kitty Knuckles Legal

“Kitty knuckles” — also known as cat keychains or self-defense knuckles — might look harmless, but in most U.S. states, they are treated the same as brass knuckles.
These plastic or metal keychains are designed with pointed “ears” for striking, which makes them classified as concealed weapons in several states, including New York, California, New Jersey, and Illinois.
While a few states allow them for self-defense, carrying kitty knuckles can still result in misdemeanor or weapons charges if used or brandished.
Always check your local laws before buying or carrying one — even small keychain versions can be considered illegal weapons in strict states.
